The artists met during a series of lectures on modern art more than 10 years ago.  Over the years, through visiting art exhibitions and discussing culture in general, they became friends and found that they share very similar sensibilities. They both approach photography as an exploration of line, composition, texture, abstraction and color, found and appropriated from daily life, devoid of narrative.
By bringing the two artists' work together for the first time, this exhibition aims to explore the visual dialogue between the works: their connections, juxtapositions, dissonance and resonance.

The Hayakawa Port Series of photographs began in 2008. The Hexagons, a series of handmade montages, were begun in 2019. My inspiration for this project was the subtlety of the patina acquired by utilitarian objects corroded by the sea air: decay becoming art.

Biography:
He is from Pittsburgh, Pa. USA, studied painting and sculpture at CMU, then lived in NYC.  He returned to Pgh. in the ‘80s, studied bronze casting, and exhibited annually with the Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors.  In ‘88 he won a competition to create a site-specific installation, “Vaulting the Octagon,” for the rotunda of the Frick Fine Arts Building.
In 1990 he moved to Odawara,  began studying shodo and held an exhibition of drawings, paintings and sculpture.
From ‘91 onwards he held one-person exhibitions and joined in group shows. In ‘94 he began teaching at Sophia University Junior College.  After a lengthy hiatus, he is looking forward to sharing his work with the community.

I like to take walks and pictures on the streets.
And I love the surfaces made by weathering as an artless hand. It’s a joy seeing images that appear in the things by being exposed to the sun, wind and rain.
Beauty is standing unexpectedly on the street corner.
It may be gone tomorrow.
So I take a walk and take a picture.
